It is often not possible to differentiate between similar pain that could be a result of other problems like heart pains, gastric ulcer, pneumonia, and kidney stones.

In most of the gallbladder cases, the disfunctional gall bladder which produces stones is the reason why pain appears in the first place and not the stones themselves. An exception is made when the stones actually block the bile duct.

Unfortunately, there may be no way to completely avoid gallstones if your ancestors had them. But, you may be able to decrease the chance of getting them by several methods.
